This process will helps us to perform these migrations smoothly, simply, and efficiently.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The term staged migration means, the data is migrated in batches and not all at once. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this article, we have discussed \u201chow to export Exchange mailboxes to Office 365 using staged migration\u201d, Also, the prerequisites and staged migration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Exchange Staged Migration?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staged Migration is a method used to move email accounts (called mailboxes) from an older version of Microsoft Exchange Server (like Exchange 2003 or 2007) to Microsoft 365 (Office 365). Instead of moving all users at the same time, the migration happens in small groups or batches, one at a time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IT admins can manage users as per their preference, monitor the process, and move on to the next batch after forwarding the first batch.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>When do we need to use the Staged Migration?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the following conditions, we require the staged migration:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your organization is using Exchange Server 2003 or 2007<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You want to move mailboxes in phases (not all at once)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan to move all users to Microsoft 365 permanently<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Pre-Requisites for Exchange Staged Migration<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exchange Server must be Exchange 2003 or 2007, and a valid Microsoft 365 (Office 365) tenant should be set up.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your domain is added and verified in Microsoft 365, and Azure AD Connect is installed to sync users and passwords<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mailboxes must be hosted on-premises (not in hybrid or other systems)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Exchange server must have a valid SSL certificate installed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exchange Web Services (EWS) must be connected to the Internet<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prepare a CSV file with user email addresses for migration batches, and assign proper Microsoft 365 licenses to each migrated user<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be ready to update DNS (MX) records after final migration, and inform users about the migration and Outlook reconfiguration<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Staged Migration Process For Exchange Mailboxes to Office 365\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To complete the exchange staged migration process from Exchange mailboxes to Office 365, follow the steps below:<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Step-1: Add Your Domain to Microsoft 365<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to admin.microsoft.com and sign in with your admin account, then go to Setup &gt; Domains<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clicked on the \u201cAdd Domain\u201d icon, and enter your domain name (e.g. yourcompany.com)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft will ask you to verify ownership by adding a TXT record to your domain\u2019s DNS settings (your domain provider, like GoDaddy or Namecheap).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once verified, Microsoft will give you DNS settings to update:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MX record (for mail)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CNAME, TXT records<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy and paste these into your domain settings to point mail and services to Microsoft 365.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Step-2: Prepare Your On-Premises Server<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Download the Azure AD Connect from the Microsoft website and install it on your system.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This tool copies all your users (and passwords) from your old server (Active Directory) to Microsoft 365.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to Exchange Admin Center in Microsoft 365, then click on Recipients &gt; Migration &gt; More &gt; Migration Endpoints<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click \u201cNew\u201d and choose Outlook Anywhere<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enter your on-premises Exchange server details to create the connection between the two systems<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Step-3: Set Up Mail Flow<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure your emails are flowing correctly (from and to users). Try sending test emails to confirm delivery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the migration, some users will still be on the old
